A classic example is a string and symbolic keys looking similar, e.g, <em>:a<\/em> and <em>\u201ca\u201d<\/em>. This is very common for modules parsing JSON <a href=\"https:\/\/www.botreetechnologies.com\/blog\/integrating-google-cloud-vision-api-with-ruby-for-image-object-detection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">API<\/a> response as well as normal HTML request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>HashWithIndifferentAccess<\/em> is a <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.to\/botreetech\/automated-image-categorization-using-google-vision-with-ruby-464j\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ruby<\/a> ActiveSupport class, which can be used to access the different types of the hash keys objects which look similar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Let\u2019s define two hashes with similar-looking keys<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><script src=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/MittalPatel-BTC\/52993fdab6ba350ba9ae5d51d73b1ef3.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s try to get the value of symbolic hash with its key using the first symbol and then similar looking string key<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><script src=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/MittalPatel-BTC\/5cb6a77806d9156a488e5f277fa50b53.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you try to get a value using <code><strong>symbolic_hash[\"a\"],<\/strong><\/code> it gives you <code><strong>nil<\/strong><\/code> as a result and that seems to be the wrong output but it is not the case as :a and \u201ca\u201d are the different objects(former is the symbol and later one is a string).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Read Also:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.botreetechnologies.com\/blog\/interesting-methods-to-work-with-ruby-hashes-in-a-better-way\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Interesting Methods to Work with Ruby Hashes in A Better Way<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, if you want to retrieve the value of string_hash using the symbolic key, you won\u2019t get expected results but symmetrically nothing is wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><script src=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/MittalPatel-BTC\/8af72178b757e79cbcc99a9f2ccfeec7.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/www.botreetechnologies.com\/blog\/introducing-jquery-in-rails-6-using-webpacker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rails<\/a> provides a solution around it to consider both types of keys as same.
